RO Membrane Technician

The RO Membrane Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting of Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane systems. The technician ensures optimal performance of the RO units by monitoring water quality, system pressures, and membrane condition, and performing routine inspections and chemical cleanings as necessary.Key Responsibilities:Operate and monitor RO systems to ensure continuous and efficient water production.Perform routine inspections of membranes, pressure vessels, piping, valves, and related components.Conduct chemical cleaning (CIP – Clean-In-Place) of membranes following standard operating procedures.Monitor key parameters such as differential pressure, permeate quality, flow rates, and salt rejection.Replace or recondition membranes as needed based on performance and condition.Maintain accurate logs of operating data, maintenance activities, and membrane performance trends.Assist in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, or chemical issues affecting RO system performance.Ensure proper dosing of antiscalants, cleaning chemicals, and other treatment agents.Follow plant safety protocols and chemical handling procedures.Collaborate with operators and engineers to optimize system performance and troubleshoot issues.Maintain inventory of spare parts, chemicals, and membranes.
Qualifications:Education:High school diploma or technical school certificate required.Diploma or associate degree in Water Treatment Technology, Environmental Science, or related field is preferred.Experience:2+ years of experience working with RO systems in water/wastewater treatment or industrial water systems.Hands-on experience with membrane cleaning, diagnostics, and performance monitoring.Skills:Knowledge of RO system components (membranes, vessels, pumps, valves, instrumentation).Ability to perform mechanical tasks such as membrane change-outs, chemical cleaning setup, and system flushing.Familiarity with SCADA systems and water treatment process controls is a plus.Strong attention to detail and understanding of water quality parameters (TDS, conductivity, pH, etc.).Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting.Working Conditions:Work performed in water treatment facilities, industrial environments, or remote plant sites.May involve lifting, bending, and working with chemicals while using appropriate PPE.Shift work or on-call availability may be required.Exposure to heat, noise, and confined spaces.Preferred Certifications (Optional):RO Operator Certification (e.g., SWRO, BWRO)Water or Wastewater Operator License (depending on location/regulations)HAZMAT or Chemical Handling Training
