Position Summary:The SCADA Technician is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems used to monitor and control industrial operations. This role ensures reliable and secure communication between field equipment and control centers, supporting real-time operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:Install, test, and maintain SCADA hardware and software, including RTUs, PLCs, and HMIs.Monitor SCADA system performance and respond to system alarms and failures.Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues related to field communications, instrumentation, and control equipment.Support integration of new devices, sensors, and systems into existing SCADA architecture.Perform regular system updates, backups, and preventive maintenance.Assist engineers in designing and implementing SCADA system improvements or expansions.Document system configurations, wiring diagrams, and change logs.Collaborate with IT and operations teams to ensure system reliability and cybersecurity.Provide technical support to operators and field personnel.Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency situations as needed.Qualifications:Education:Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, Computer Science, or a related field.Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.Experience:2+ years of hands-on experience with SCADA systems in industrial or utility environments.Experience with PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMIs, RTUs, and SCADA platforms (e.g., Ignition, Wonderware, GE iFIX, VTScada).Skills:Strong understanding of communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, OPC).Familiarity with network systems, IP addressing, and firewalls.Ability to interpret control wiring diagrams and technical manuals.Good troubleshooting and analytical skills.Work Environment:Combination of office and field work in industrial or remote environments.May require working in confined spaces, heights, or hazardous areas with appropriate PPE.Occasional travel to field sites and on-call duty required.Preferred Qualifications:SCADA certification or related technical training.Experience in [industry-specific area: water/wastewater, energy, oil & gas, manufacturing].Knowledge of industrial cybersecurity standards (e.g., ISA/IEC 62443, NIST).
