OBJECTIVE:Performs standard laboratory type observations, tests, examinations or analyses requiring general knowledge and experience in, the application.Scope:Company operations frequently require the services of laboratory technicians trained in the general aspect of laboratory services. This position provides a moderate range of such laboratory services for a number of proponents in all operational and administrative areas. The incumbent normally receives work direction and is supervised by a Shift Supervisor.Duties and Responsibilities:1. Conducts standard run checks to ensure instruments' accuracy and reliability; maintain a clean and safe work environment and retain laboratory equipment in good condition.2. Performs pre-analysis laboratory procedures including conducting standard run to check instrument performance/accuracy, plotting readings in the quality control charts.3. Ensures and checks the expiration date of reagents and chemicals prior to performing the analysis. Reports out-of-order and out-of-calibration instruments to the direct supervisor in a timely manner.4. Conducts sample analysis as per approved procedures (i.e., UOP, IP, ASTM or other international reference analysis methods). Conducts verification procedures on samples and accept or reject the sample through shift supervisor.5. Reports test results in an accurate and timely manner through established reporting protocols and discusses abnormal results with the direct supervisor.6. Prepares sufficient sample quantity for retention and properly stored as specified in SATORP lab policy and procedures.7. Observes and communicate unsafe actions, work conditions, and incidents to the direct supervisor. Ensures that all chemicals and reagents containers are correctly labelled per HAZCOM guidelines.8. Operates and calibrate all laboratory equipment, including complex and sophisticated equipment and coordinates the preventive maintenance activities based on instrument calibration/PM schedule setup in LIMS.9. Ensures compliance with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) to effectively and safely handle chemicals. Ensures periodic review and discussion on MSDS.10. Complies with relevant safety and environmental standards especially upon waste disposal and effectively responds to emergencies per SATORP emergency response plan.11. Works with the chemist to commission the new Laboratory instrument, issues the new commissioning report and adds all required new instrument information into LIMS.12. Trains laboratory technicians on the new instruments and any newly implemented analysis procedure. Develops or participates in creating testing procedures, quality control standards and quality control charts.13. Participates in preparing purchase request to procure the required instruments, spare parts, consumable standards, lab chemicals and reagents as per approved method.14. Ensures ISO 17025 practiced & followed effectively by Shift Staff15. Implementation of QMS system. Follow Laboratory Standard Safety rules and regulations.16. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the shift Supervisor.Expected Results:

Main Competencies & Quality:
  • Diploma in Chemical/Chemistry or Industrial chemistry
  • Five (8) years of experience in HDPE Polymer and Petrochemical.
  • Certification of job competency specified for Laboratory operators
  • Proficiency in both spoken and written English.
  • Degree/Diploma in relevant discipline and 5 years relevant experience or Equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.
