- Investigate, propose and co-ordinate solutions to overcome airworthiness or ground safety problems highlighted by Base Safety reports, faxes or signals. Perform analysis of avionics systems.
- Review, evaluate and progress technical submissions, Costed Proposals and Statements of Work on all Tornado avionics systems. Draft and co-ordinate Directorate responses to Prime Contractor originated ECP's and TCTO's.
- Draft, review and co-ordinate RSAF generated TCTO's relevant to Tornado avionics systems. Prepare Statement of Requirements for the design and performance of avionics systems and equipment
- Participate in research, development and implementation of programs to improve safety, reliability and maintainability of avionics systems, subsystems and components.
- Monitor test programs associated with avionics systems and equipment
- Evaluate test data to identify problems and/or to verify performance
- Prepare RSAF staff correspondence (reports, letters, presentations etc.) to applicable organisations, internal or external to the RSAF, on Tornado avionics systems issues.
- Accompany and support RSAF officers at briefings and meetings
- Accompany and support RSAF officers at briefings and meetings
- Participate in avionics system requirement reviews, preliminary and critical design reviews, integration readiness reviews and system acceptance reviews.
- Research problems discovered in service and develop solutions.
- Work with other maintenance and engineering disciplines and management teams to collectively meet requirements.
- Coordinate with project work teams to ensure adherence to policies achievement of quality targets and delivery on schedule milestones.
- Review and recommend RSAF authorizations of maintenance and engineering modifications.
- Progress approval of improvement initiatives through external design organizations and technical authorities.
- Perform studies and participate in research, development and implementation of programs to improve safety, reliability and maintainability.
- Support RSAF officers at meetings, and participate in design and programme management reviews
- Qualified to Degree level or equivalent (HND/HNC/NVQ) in Electronics Engineering or related field. A Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering is desirable.
- Extensive proven experience in the maintenance and management of Tornado aircraft avionics/armament systems (or on similar frontline aircraft with complex avionic systems e.g. Typhoon).
- Extensive experience in the maintenance and management of Tornado aircraft avionics/armament systems (or on similar frontline aircraft with complex avionic systems e.g. Typhoon).
- A good all-round awareness and knowledge of Tornado aircraft and avionics/ armament systems.
- Detailed knowledge of maintenance management, statistical, analytical and presentation techniques
- Fully conversant with the concepts of maintainability, reliability, system diagnosis and failure modes, design procedure and industrial processes.
- Experience and knowledge of RSAF practices and procedures gained through at proven experience involvement, preferably at Base Level, within SBDCP Programmes.
- A working knowledge of international regulation and policy for military and civil aviation maintenance.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in the English language
- Strong leadership qualities with proven interpersonal and team working skills
- Computer literate and an experienced user of the Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project).
- A good all-round awareness of RSAF processes and procedures
- Knowledge of aviation quality systems, airworthiness, airframe engineering aircraft control systems, weapon control systems, design engineering, manufacturing, project/programme management, systems engineering, test engineering and aircraft systems integration.
- A good all-round awareness of RSAF programs, Suppliers, Government to Government Standard Agencies, International Standards Agencies and academic/research establishments.
