JOB DESCRIPTIONThe global energy system is undergoing a rapid transformation, and the electricity sector is at the forefront. The economics of competing energy sources are giving rise to new technologies, regulatory and market structures, and business models in this sector. Major long-term changes center around the regulatory strategies, institutional structures, and organizational elements related to renewable energy, commercial nuclear power. KAPSARC seeks a passionate expert to contribute to its Knowledge and Analysis Program in Utilities and Renewables and to support advisory services. The role involves, among other duties, conducting strategic and regulatory analyses of policies in the rapidly evolving electricity sector including the roles and responsibilities of regulatory organizations, utilities, and other stakeholders, renewable regulatory strategy and organization, commercial nuclear power assessment and deployment. The successful candidate will contribute to KAPSARC's objective of ensuring its Knowledge and Analysis projects result in high-quality and actionable policy options. The candidate will also contribute to KAPSARC's consulting and advisory services. KAPSARC's efforts involve a mix of analytical and policy-oriented work products, conducted in a dynamic, multicultural environment by a team of highly qualified and experienced policy analysts, engineers, planners and economists.Responsibilities:
  • Lead the qualitative and quantitative analysis of institutional, regulatory, and economic dimensions of the electric power sector covering regulators, utilities, renewable energy, commercial nuclear power.
  • Design, conduct and disseminate Knowledge and Analysis products through effective communication approaches including workshops, webinars, papers, and presentations that meet the needs of stakeholders.
  • Carry out cutting edge analyses using state-of-the-art qualitative and quantitative techniques via case studies, statistical analyses, international comparisons, and strategic assessments.
Experience:
  • Previous experience in qualitative and quantitative research, preferably within a research or international organization.
  • Thorough knowledge of the electric power sector with direct experience with regulatory strategy and organization, commercial nuclear power.
  • Strong experience in drafting, editing and producing evidence-based policy papers, working papers, reports and other publications.
  • Strong communication skills, an enthusiastic team player, and excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. in economics, operations research, public policy, or a related field. Alternatively, a master's degree with sufficient research experience
  • A minimum of 8 years' professional experience with energy utility regulation.
