Duties and Responsibilities
  • Abides by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff, and those specific to the department.
  • Responsible for the clinical care of patients under the supervision of Consultants including - participating in ward rounds and attending to patients in order of medical urgency, taking a full history and medical examination of new admissions and arranging appropriate investigations and assisting with medical procedures as required, managing medical conditions according to acceptable clinical standards under supervision of consultants, collaborating with other medical, nursing staff and multidisciplinary team members to facilitate patient management, communicating with family, outside medical practitioners, and/or community services concerning patient management, assisting pediatrician with out-patient clinics and services as directed by consultant pediatrician.
  • Instructs and guides when necessary junior medical staff in the overall care of patients, supervises their performance/work and contributes to the training and teaching activities in the department/division.
  • Document clinical notes throughout each episode of patient care and at the time of discharge to meet medical record standards.
  • To clerk, assess, and reassess all emergency admissions on the request of the admitting consultant and/or the senior nurse in charge of the ward/hospital.
  • To report and discuss all unusual findings, complication or alterations in the management plan, with the Senior Registrar and Consultant.
  • To acquire and maintain a valid certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Participate in after hours and weekend rosters.
  • Participate in data collection, clinical audits, clinical risk management and Quality Assurance Program activities.
  • Participate in special projects such as disaster planning, clinical pathway design, etc. as directed.
  • Documents clinical notes on each patient to meet medical record standards.
  • Comply with the hospital’s consent and confidentiality policy.
  • Attends the Continuing Medical Education Program of the department/division.
  • Participates in the Major Disaster Plan of the hospital, as indicated.
  • Participates in CQI&PS System Control Activities, Staff Development, Environmental Safety Awareness and Fire and Safety Practices, Disaster, CPR and Infection Control.
  • Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills, and abilities, within the hospital and/or affiliated medical facilities.
